Here’s an excerpt of a Phone Interview with Ally Dawson – Director of Marketing at Frayed Edge Clothing Company Los Angeles. Frayed Edge is a Startingaclothingline.com / Digital Fashion Pro client. Interviewed by Kim – writer here at Harper Arrington.

“So we first want to say congratulations on getting things going. We also want to thank you and Frayed Edge for being willing to share your story with us as a lot of our commercial clients wish for our help to them to remain anonymous for PR reasons.”

“It is our pleasure. We don’t mind letting people know how we got started.

Kim of Harper Arrington:

“Great that’s good to hear! So how and when did Frayed Edge get started? What’s the Frayed Edge story?”

Ally of Frayed Edge Clothing Company LA:

“Okay... we all had known each other for awhile and we first got interested in doing a fashion label in high school. We didn’t see the type of design or fit that we wanted on the market so we just decided we should do a line. It would give us a change to display our creative juices. None of us were really good at sketching or really knew anything about the business. We spent a couple of years doing research but once we found your site we knew we had to get the things you’ve offered. So we just went from there. Once we read everything and constructed our official blueprint and he we are.”

Kim of Harper Arrington:

“Sounds good! So where are you guys now in the process of getting your line going?”

Ally of Frayed Edge Clothing Company LA:

“Well we just finished doing a tradeshow where we took orders for some of our styles that will be out soon. We are also planning on doing Magic in August. We have a few ads in some major magazines that will be hitting the stands soon. We have about 21 retail accounts already that will be carrying the line. We’re just really excited about everything. We’re just really busy making this thing happen!”

Kim of Harper Arrington:

“So how would you describe Frayed Edge? What’s your flavor so to speak?”

Ally of Frayed Edge Clothing Company LA:

Frayed Edge is limited edition clothing line where we will be doing premium denim for men and women along with really trendy tops. We just want to be different yet hot at the same time. People have really taken to our style so far. At the last tradeshow we were at we had samples plus we had a catalog we created with your Digital Fashion Pro software and between both we really were able to demonstrate and sale our line.

Kim of Harper Arrington:

“What would you say has been the hardest part about getting your line going?”

Ally of Frayed Edge Clothing Company LA:

“I don’t think that it has been more difficult than starting any other business. It just took really detailed planning. Again that is where you’re Starting a Clothing Line Course really helped. We were able to negotiate smaller quantity orders with manufacturers overseas using the setup from the books. We learned how to set up the deals with retailers so that it was beneficial to us. The books made everything straight forward.”

Kim of Harper Arrington:

“What would you say to people who want to start their own line?”

Ally of Frayed Edge Clothing Company LA:

“I would say be patient and believe in yourself. I would definitely recommend they buy some or all of your resources because they are truly amazing. I would say just be confident and think positive. If fashion is their passion then they should put their fears aside and go after their dreams.”
